Background to Kiddiwinks and Robotics

Kiddiwinks got involved with coaching and mentoring teams in 2006. We invite learners from any school to join us. In the Western Cape, we are the only independent teams. The other teams are representing just one school.

The first year (2006) we entered 4 teams. Three of these teams were selected for nationals and 1 team won the research award in the Western Cape.

In 2007 we only entered 1 team with the team coming 2^nd with the Championship award and 2^nd for robot performance in the Western Cape. There was no National competition held this year.

In 2008 we entered 2 teams with 1 team winning the Championship award and 3^rd for Robot Performance in the Western Cape. They went on to Nationals where they won the Research award.

In 2009 we entered 1 team with the team winning the Championship award and 1^st for Robot Performance in the Western Cape. The team also won the Against All Odds award at Nationals.

In 2010 we entered 2 teams with the two teams taking 1^st and 2^nd place for the Championship award and 1^st and 2^nd for Robot Performance in the Regional’s. The teams were then joined to compete at nationals where they came second to qualify for internationals. Due to a problem raising the money the team could not compete internationally.

In 2011 we entered 3 teams with one team going to nationals and two teams winning trophies.

In 2012 Kiddiwinks entered 2 teams although being involved with training of 7 teams. 3 of the teams qualified for nationals. The Kiddiwinks team won Robot Stratergy at Regionals and 2^nd place for the Championship award at nationals qualifying for internationals in Germany. Courses

Kiddiwinks provide the following cources:

Robotics First steps

Age: 8+
Cost: R 240 per child
Cost: R 300 per parent and child combination
Duration: 3 hours
Booking essential / Maximum: 15 or 5 for parent and child

Covers basic programming of a robot to move, use touch and light sensors. Note: this workshop does not include a robot to take home at the end.

Robotics Challenge

Age: 7+
Cost: R 240 per person
Duration: 3 hours
Booking / Max size: Max 15

Come and compete in programming a robot to meet the challenges set out. Previous knowledge of NXT programming is required.

2, 3, 4 or 5 April from 9:00-12:00

Bring your own

Age: 8+
Cost: R240 per person
Duration: 3 hours x 5 sessions or 1.5 hours x 10 sessions
Booking / Max size: Max 15

Come and learn how to use your NXT robot. Bring your own robot and laptop/PC and learn what you can do with it.

Crazy Action Contraptions

Age: 8+
Cost: R 160 per child
Duration: 2 hours
Booking / Max size: Max 20

From the supercharged Speedster to the Squeezeclaw Grabber to the Wall Rocket Racer — all these contraptions spin, stretch, speed, or otherwise spring into action. Come and build these fun contraptions. All contraptions are built with instructions.
